Elephant training

Today we woke up at 6 to go to the elephants. We went to their Boma, where they sleep during the night, then we opened and let them out and then cleaned. Those elephant guys are quite hilarious and fun to be around. We got finish quite early and then we just walked with the elephants to where they would train. It was not a fast walk, we stopped many times for the elephants to eat and walked in their pace and took our time. Was so cool to walk with them, you basically just follow the pack of elephants haha. Then we had quick breakfast and hurried to elephant training. There they showed some tricks (they only use positive reinforcement), some of the tricks were kicking ball, putting up feets, turning around, etc. I have never seen anything like that so was really cool. Then we got to interact with them so we gave them treats and got to sit up on them and stuff like that. We then got back for a little break where we just sat by the river and talked. Then they picked us up and dropped us off at the elephant step on, which you use to get up on the elphants. We all got to ride our own (with the handler on the elephant aswell of course), the elephant i had was called Amai and she was so funny, she kept taking sticks and handing them to either me, the handler or the other volunteers on the other elephants haha. We had an hour ride and that was the first time i sat on an elephant, i thought it would be more bumpy. After the ride your legs were just so soar haha elephants are huge. Then we had a little meeting with Dan where we talked a bit about ourselves and he explained stuff about the projects, then we got to go inside to the A's enclosure, Africa and Alika where he just talked a bit and we stood listening. Then we had quick lunch cause we were late again haha, and hurried to lion training. We got to walk the A's and Dan talked and showed how you should act around them and how you should do in different situations. Then we got back and went to the elephants again, now we would walk them to their Boma where they sleep. When we went there Amai was a bit upset for some reason so she mock charged at the vehickle and when we stepped out she did it again but then it was all good haha. But we were a bit shaky after that, youre not much compared to a big elephant. Then we started walking them to their Boma and it was so cool how they just knew their own place and went straight into their little place. Then we had to walk back and it was such a pretty sunset. When we got back i took a shower before our meeting, we talk about certain things about the day and then how the day is planned for tomorrow. Then we had dinner and made ourselves ready for fundraiser night. So we basically raised money for the kids, we payed a fee to be entered and then we had an african night competition. We had 5 teams, my team was "team badass" and there was 5 different sections so food, stuffing, drinks, drumming and dancing. So basically in the food there was different african specialities like worms/berries/chicken feet etc, which you had to eat and fastest won. Then we had the chubby bunny challenge and on drinks we had african beer drinking competition then we had drumming where we had to copy beats and then dancing which were pretty awesome african dances which was pretty hard. Our team lost haha but we had just so so much fun i havent laughed that much in a while, it was just hilarious. Now we are all off to bed and everyones so tired, tomorrow will be really fun and we will get a bit of sleep in :)
