Yesterday after breakfast we went camping for some game counting. A game count is when you stay up all night by a waterhole and doing research, you look what animals come by, how many, and what time. We had a bush man with us who had a gun in case of danger, after all it is the bush and you never know what can come. It took maybe 1-2 hours there and we were litterary driving in the middle of nowhere and all you saw was trees and all you heard was birds. We camped up on a little hill with the view over the waterhole, it was very open there so we had a great view to see animals. Just when we had packed up our tents we saw two buffaloos, and after a while a herd of zebras came running by us, you could hear their hoofs and it was so weird to see, cause i felt like i was in a zoo. We made dinner, grilled chicken and potatoes, it was over 30 degrees and no shade = HOT. After dinner we hat to sit quiet cause around 6 is the magic hour and thats when the animals start to come. We saw an elephant, a lonely male coming to the waterhole. It got darker and darker and the elephant came by again and the buffaloos. We thought we would sleep three hours and then go back out again, but we never woke up...ooops we were all so tired. In the middle of the night we heard a hyena and a lion roar very close to the tents, oh my god, that was so scary and the sound was so terrifying and close. I woke up so many times, i really needed to pee and the sun comes up around 7, i did NOT wan't to go out in the dark. So i didn't get much sleep after all. When we woke up the first thing we saw was a pack of hyenas running by our camp, gosh how impressive!! We had breakfast with the nice view and then walked down to the water hole to look for tracks, we just found tracks of elephant, hyena, wild dogs and zebra. We went back to pack the car and a huuuuge pack of babboon came soo close, there must have been at least 30 of them, and so many babies. We took the car back to the house where we started with the easter party. We painted the eggs and fixed all the last things and then went to the orphanage. There was around 120 kids waiting there, almost pulling us out from the car, they were so excited. We all got a group of kids and we were the leader, i had 13 kids in different ages. They had one by one run and find an hidden egg and when they had found one, another kid got to run. They were so into it and excited!! We came in second place where we counted who got most eggs. Then the kids got popcorn, lemonade, cake and candy. They also put on bunny masks that they made and blew up balloons! All the kids were so so happy, wanted to hold your hands and sit on your shoulders and back, they were sooo cheeky and cute. They all made a circle and 2 kids dances insise like a dance battle it was so hilarious!! After the dance it was time to say bye, we were all so so exhausted when we headed back to the van. These kids just made me smile so much, they were so happy and kind, helped each other finding eggs and no one was sad if they didnt get the same amount of candy as anyone else, they were just grateful and thanked for the little they got. Even though the horrible things they have been through and are going through, they still are such happy kids! Tomorrow we will go there again, can't wait! :) Best Easter in my life!! The day was ended with yummy dinner, popcorn and great company :)
